As I continue living in this world, one important lesson I have learned is to be always thankful for the little blessings we get each day.  Sometimes we are so focused on the big picture like praying that God will bless us riches yet, we hardly noticed that we are more blessed being able to eat 3 meals a day with 2 or sometimes 3 snacks (midnight snack included) in between.  Praying for that high paying and more lucrative job but hardly noticing your work in a company for almost 10 years–simple, yet, gives you more time to spend with your family.  Asking God to take away the difficult problem we face but not noticing how He let His Spirit gives us the strength to see it through.  Wishing for something we don’t have and not appreciating what we already have.  Sadly, we are all guilty of this especially if others have more than what we have.  After all, human nature is never content with what life gives him and it is this attitude that makes us miserable.

Almost half of my life, I lived a comfortable life with almost everything at my disposal.  People who loved me were taken for granted.  Tons of good food were wasted and thrown away.  Clothes, shoes, bags and so much unimportant things were bought but not worn.  I had a life a lot of people would kill to have yet, I did not appreciate it and I was unhappy.  God took control and it was gone in a flash.  It was a difficult lesson to learn.  I had to lose everything and everyone to gain it back the hard way.  Thus, I was taught to be thankful and to appreciate the little things in life.

Appreciating little things like waking up to another day; a day filled with blessings! Thankful for the sun shining or the rain pouring, thankful even for the beauty of sunset.  Nature is indeed proof that God is alive!  A warm hug, a sweet kiss shared with the people you love is important especially to the family who has been always around to lend a hand and give words of encouragement. Thankful for every meal shared whether it is simple or not, for there are so many people out there who cannot even have a meal a day. Thankful that we live in a society wherein we have the freedom to do the things that make us happy for we live in a world where freedom of choice is available to everyone. Thankful that we could spend quality time with our children whether at a park or at our own backyard.  What is important is we convey to them their importance in our daily lives. Most of all, we must be thankful for the inner strength that comes from God allowing us to face each trial in our lives and the ability to move on every time we fall.

A thankful heart is a happy heart.  To be happy in life, we need to learn to appreciate the little things around us.
